Under CSA, carrier ratings are based on violations data, not compliance reviews. Managing your fleet’s data on a daily basis will be vitally important. It will also be an extraordinary challenge. To survive – and thrive – carriers must take the following steps.
Monitor your data continuously
Data is continuously changing, as new violations are added to the government’s database and old violations fall away. Carriers must constantly monitor COMPASS because a single violation can have serious consequences. Every violation, even if it’s inaccurate, counts against your fleets unless you challenge it. Errors can include clean inspections that do not appear in COMPASS, duplicates, inaccurate violations, and violations that belong to another carrier but have been mistakenly attributed to your fleet. Because carriers only have a limited amount of time to challenge data, they must be vigilant in order to catch errors.
Know what’s behind the scores
Your safety scores have limited value because they are simply a performance indicator. It’s the behaviors causing your violations that are important. RAIR’s system analyzes your safety and compliance data to help identify the root causes of your violations. We give you the insights required to improve your scores by reducing your violations.
Correct unsafe behaviors
Only two things can help a fleet with poor safety scores: improved safety practices and the passage of time. Once RAIR’s analytics have identified the causes of your safety problems, you can begin correcting the behaviors behind the violations. Time also helps because the violations are weighted: The severity declines as time passes. And, after twenty-four months, violations drop out of the safety scoring formula altogether. You can’t control time, but you can control your safety practices.
